How to clean barbecue grills
Speaking the truth: there's no one who doesn't like a barbecue. What does exist is people who don't like cleaning the grill grates afterward. Do you agree or not?
It's not just about that juicy sirloin (or eggplant and mushrooms for the vegetarians out there) and the cold drink. It's about the moment. Being together, the lively crowd… You can already picture yourself in a samba circle or singing along to country hits with everyone.
The problem comes when that dream ends and we have to return to reality: yes. It's time to clean the grill grates. If this task fell on you, don't worry—we've got some tips to help you do it with minimal effort.
Neutral detergent is always an option
You know those mom tips? Here's one: you might feel lazy, and as much as you want to leave it for later, the best time to clean the barbecue grill is right after the barbecue. Right away, while it's still a little warm, you know? It gets much harder to remove the grime once it’s stuck on.
At this moment, when the grease hasn’t dried yet, neutral detergent does the job well. Yes, that classic yellow one that works for (almost) everything. In fact, it’s even one of our recommended products for cleaning porcelain tiles.
The difference between it and the others is its pH, which is close to 7. But what does this neutral pH mean? Well, simply put, it means it's neither alkaline nor acidic, staying right in the middle. In plain terms, this means it works on both grease and metal, but in a gentler way, without damaging or staining.
All you’ll need is:
Water
Stell wool
Neutral detergent
As simple as this list is, so is the step-by-step guide to cleaning barbecue grill grates with neutral detergent:
Remove the grill from the barbecue while it’s still warm (of course, at a comfortable temperature).
Apply the detergent to the steel wool and scrub.
You can try detergent with warm water
But that’s it? Yep, that’s it. Of course, simply washing with detergent will only work for cleaning barbecue grill grates that are still fairly new. If there’s already burnt-on grease, it will be much more difficult.
In that case, you can try soaking your grill in a basin with neutral detergent and warm water (half and half) for 10 minutes and then scrubbing again. This will likely do the trick, but if it still doesn’t work, we recommend moving on to the next steps—just don’t forget about the neutral detergent, as it will still be useful.
The most effective and easiest way to clean barbecue grill grates is with Azulim Grill Cleaner
Now, if you want to clean grill grates effortlessly, without any hassle, complicated mixtures, or handling a hot grill, we at Azulim have exactly what you need.
Azulim Grill Cleaner is specially formulated to make it easier to remove dirt and buildup from grill grates, as well as skewers, griddles, baking trays, exhaust hoods, and even air fryers. Yes, wherever there's stuck-on grease, you can count on it!
Going back to the pH classification, Azulim Grill Cleaner is slightly alkaline (above 7 and below 9). Alkaline substances remove all types of dirt, except mineral-based residues (which is why it won’t damage or rust your grill, barbecue, or baking tray).
Products with this characteristic specialize in removing grease and oils, such as those from frying—and that’s exactly what you’re looking for here, right?
How to Use Azulim Grill Cleaner?
If you’re tired of scrubbing grill grates until your arms ache with little to no results, you can finally relax. Now, all you need to remove grease and food residue is:
Keep the bottle in an upright position and turn the nozzle to ON;
Spray Azulim Grill Cleaner directly onto the surface to be cleaned;
Let the product sit for up to 10 minutes, then gently scrub with a brush or a soft sponge—the yellow side of a regular sponge works just fine;
If possible, rinse with running water. If not, simply wipe off any remaining residue with a clean, damp cloth.
That's it. Really, that's all! By following these four simple steps, you'll be able to clean grill grates, air fryers, exhaust hoods, and anywhere else grease and oils are giving you trouble.
